Bath Bomb Ingredients: Fragrance vs. Essential Oil

Bath Bomb Ingredients: Fragrance vs. Essential Oil

When making bath bombs, artists have a lot of different options to choose from for what they can include in their bath bomb powder.  Bath bomb ingredients such as Fragrance Oil, Essential Oil, and Salts add a certain unique flavor to each different bath bomb, making each one unique and different to each user. Each ingredient, while chosen carefully, can affect users differently.  One example of this would be the Fragrance Oils, which tend to cause slight irritations on the skin for users who are sensitive to fragrance.  While Fragrance Oil is a very common ingredient found in almost all bath bombs due to their scents and aromas, there may be other solutions for people who have an allergic reaction to certain bath products and ingredients.

How do you know you are sensitive to fragrance?

Generally, it is pretty easy to tell if you are sensitive to Fragrances.  While Bath Bomb users might have different reactions to different types of Fragrances, it is generally a telling sign if you have skin irritations, red welts on your skin after bath bomb use, or develop slight hives and start tearing or sneezing.  We recommend that if you experience any of these symptoms, to stop using those bath bombs and get seen by a doctor immediately if the condition worsens.  However, rest assured that you are not alone.  According to Dermatologists, nearly 60-70% of women and 50-60% of men reported having sensitive skin.   That is why Lumi Lathers is focused and dedicated to creating a bath bomb that is not only healthy and relaxing, but safe for those with more sensitive skin.  Having bath products that cater to not only bath bomb lovers, but people with sensitive skin is an important part of what Lumi Lathers focuses on.

Does that mean I can’t use Bath Bombs?

Not quite.  If you are having a reaction to certain bath products, I would check the ingredients list or obtain one to really find out what is in that particular bath bomb.  If you see certain ingredients you recognize that you would have an allergic reaction to, or if you notice that several of the bath bombs that you have used have the same reaction, I would identify those particular ingredients and stay away from those particular bath bombs, powders, and soaps that have any of those, and look for other ingredients that don’t cause skin irritations or other allergic reactions.  As well, while certain people have allergic reactions to certain ingredients, and each person is different, it is worth it to explore other types of bath bomb ingredients, and what is right for you and your skin.

Cue the Essential Oils

Essential oils are a common ingredient for bath bombs for people with more sensitive skin.  While still being able to have a fizz and release relaxing and soothing smells and scents, the essential oils tend to not have as much of a harsh effect on those with more sensitive skin.  In fact, with the use of essential oils, users have reported having a more comfortable and relaxing bath, without the worry of an allergic reaction.  Look for bath bombs with essential oils rather than fragrance can help to reduce and even eliminate irritating skin conditions.  As well, Essentials oils have the added benefits that help people relax, making them even more enticing and useful for people who love bath bombs.

Where to Find Essential Oil Bath Bombs for people With Sensitive Skin?

While some retailers will have bath bombs with the ingredients listed, others will have a separate section that is specifically for Essential Oil Bath products. Lumi Lathershas a separate section for Essential Oil Bath Bombs that provide not only a wonderful addition to any bathroom, but are also safe and well reviewed for people with sensitive skin.  Many other online retailers have separate sections for natural bath bomb products; however many do not disclose the full list of ingredients, making it harder to find bath bombs for people with more sensitive skin.  Looking for a list of ingredients is one way to find bath bombs for people with sensitive skin, but you can also look for companies who specifically advertise their products and have essential oil featured in them.  As well, consult with your dermatologist to find out what ingredients and types of bath products are ok for you to use, and find out exactly what ingredients your skin can and cannot handle.
